This English cottage was built in 2004 and intended to look, feel and be as authentic as possible. Every detail of the house has a story. Each craftsman contributed to the house with pride and excitement at having a canvas to utilize their time lost skills. Much of the workmanship that went into this home was done by craftsmen from around the world as there are only a handful left with these types of knowledge and skill.

{Structure}

GREEN BUILD SYSTEM, ARXX is a wonderful technology in building & constructing. Some of the benefits include elimination of cold spots that occur in conventional frame walls, 33 to 50% less air infiltration, very high R-values, and the homeowner recognizes monthly heating & cooling cost savings. You also get increased Fire Resistance Rating, increased sound ratings, increased strength & security. The walls are made of concrete block with insulation foam and cement poured into them, then the blocks are reinforced with horizontal reinforcing steel.

The stone in the home was hand quarried and installed by one mason, which took him 8 months to complete. The stone came from a quarry in Greencastle and is rare brown limestone. The stone tile floors in the foyer and throughout the kitchen & dining area are Travertine imported from Jerusalem. The stair case was made by Stone Cabin and a metal smith.

{Kitchen}

The heart of the home is filled with custom made pieces by Stone Cabin Design and hand painted by a local artist. Each piece of cabinetry is created as if it were a piece of furniture. The refrigerator is an old-style ice box custom made from Klondike Case who specializes in antique style commercial ice box refrigerators. {Master Suite}

A claw tub & pedestal sink for her and a beautiful cabinetry & marbled sink for him. A block & glasses shower with glass created by Indiana Art Glass. The artist makes glass for some of America’s most luxurious hotels and is well known for beautiful design. The tiles on the floor and walls are a hand painted design from England. The master suite has a personal laundry room in addition to the upstairs laundry.

{Other}

The chandelier in the foyer is hand forged wrought iron. The tapestry in the foyer is Hungarian 18th Century and was procured through the prestigious Beauchamp Antiques out of Plainfield. The windows are imported from Germany and offer the tilt or turn for opening. They are made by Heinznann Fenster. They have retractable screens which allow a clear view of the forest. The timber frames were hand hewn by an English Craftsmen. They were installed green so that they would twist and split naturally as they aged and dried. This creates an authentic feel of old wood. The family room floors are anywhere from 12 – 18” wide and are made from old world heart pine.
